Zen Pearls™ Art is an intuitive expression of the heart. Each image reflects the spontaneity and spaciousness of Zen as well as Shunyo’s natural sense of grace and beauty. Inspired by a poem, a bird singing, a joke, music, inner silence, or the essence of an individual, couple or group, Shunyo enters a space of no-mind and creates each Zen Pearls™ painting with a few spontaneous strokes of ink. Sometimes that's that, and the painting is done. Usually though, in order to complement the spirit of the initial calligraphy strokes, he'll add a faux-pearl medium, acrylics, or watercolors.
The sizes of Shunyo’s Zen Pearls™ original paintings range from 12x24 inches (30x60 cm) to 18x27 inches (46x67 cm). Each painting is then mounted on a 21x 46 inch (53x117 cm) silk scroll by skilled craftsmen in China.
Zen Pearls™ Portraits
In addition to the original art in this online gallery, personalized Zen Pearls™ Portraits by Shunyo can also be commissioned. Each portrait begins with a personal or online (Skype) interview with Shunyo, who then paints a Zen calligraphy portrait of the subject's essence, each creation an inspirational centerpiece for the client’s home or office for years to come.
